When was the last time you tried something new and had to recreate it yourself? I recently went to visit friends in North Caroline. We went out to celebrate a friend's birthday and the cake they served her was an apple cake with applesauce on the side. This Gluten Free Apple Decadent Sorghum Bundt Cake is my version of that amazing dessert.

Gluten Free Decadent Apple Sorghum Bundt Cake

This cake gets a one two punch of apple flavor. With an abundance of apple flavor from apple sauce in the cake, it's also served with sorghum infused applesauce. If you're looking for the perfect cake to serve for the fall or at your holiday meal, this bundt is for you.

    The Sauce is Boss

Have you had sorghum before? This sweet syrup that comes from sorghum grass flavors both the cake and applesauce in this Gluten Free Decadent Apple Sorghum Bundt Cake.

When it comes to the flavor, sorghum possesses a flavor similar to molasses. It's deep, rich, and layered. It brings out the natural sweetness of the apples while enhancing it. It's a favorite in the south, used in much the same was as honey or maple syrup. You will find sorghum and biscuits as well as sorghum and grits.

I don't know about you, but whenever I hear the word bundt I always think of that scene from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". This cake is the perfect opportunity to pull out your favorite bundt pan. There's something happy and festive about the beautiful ridges, swirls, and designs that define a bundt cake and make slicing into one that much more special.

With the abundance of apple flavor and festive design, this cake is perfect for entertaining, celebrating a special event like a birthday, or putting out on your holiday table. The only question is are you serving it with Dairy Free ice cream or whipped topping?

Baking Up Your Gluten Free Decadent Apple Sorghum Bundt Cake

Get out your bundt pan and mixing bowl, and let's break down this beautiful bundt. You will want to use your favorite apples for this recipe. If you want it a little more tart, use something like a Granny Smith. If you want a sweeter flavor, choose an apple like a Golden Delicious or Fuji.

Let's start with making the applesauce. This is served on the side as well as part of the cake itself. Make sure your apple cubes are all fairly even. This will allow the applesauce to cook evenly while also maintaining the texture and integrity of the apples. Everything gets added to the pot at the same time. You're looking for the sauce to reduce and thicken and the apples to be tender.

When it comes to mixing your cake, you are going to cream your butter and sugars together. This means you're going to mix the butter and sugar until it's light and fluffy before moving on to the next ingredients.

The rest of the wet ingredients go in after this. That includes the applesauce, eggs, vanilla, and oat milk. Once that is combined the dry ingredients go in. You want to mix the dry ingredients until they are just incorporated. Don't over mix!

Gluten Free Decadent Apple Sorghum Bundt Cake is a thick batter and will bake for 45-55 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. You want it to cool for 15-20 minutes before you release it from the bundt pan.

I love to serve this with the additional applesauce, as well as Dairy Free ice cream and a sprinkle of pecans. If you want to slice into this for breakfast or brunch though, no judgement! I won't tell anyone.
