How to Make Gluten Free Hot Chocolate Rice Krispie Treats

The only actual cooking required to make these sweet treats is melting the butter, hot chocolate, and marshmallows. This is the ideal dessert to get your kids into the kitchen with and have them help.

Time needed: 40 minutes

Marshmallows and hot chocolate come together to give this classic dessert a seasonal twist.

  1. Hot Cocoa

    Add the butter and hot chocolate mix to a stockpot over medium heat. Stir for three minutes.

  2. Marshmallows

    Remove one cup of marshmallows from the bag and set aside. Add the remaining marshmallows into the stock pot and stir until they are melted and smooth. Remove from the heat.

  3. Mix

    Add the cereals and cup of marshmallows and stir until they are fully coated.

  4. Spread

    Pour the mixture into a 9×13 casserole dish. Top with mini chocolate chips.

  5. Serve

    Allow the mixture to cool completely and then cut and serve!

Variations

This recipe is completely Dairy Free. However, you can replace the Dairy Free butter in it with regular butter.

Storage

This dessert is a great make ahead. As it sits it will become a little more stable as the marshmallows reharden. Keep it completely covered at room temperature and it will keep for 3-4 days.

    Made these over Christmas with my kiddo. I mixed the choc chips in and they melted—oops! But it was nice mistake and made them extra chocolatey! My son is dairy free and we used a dairy free cocoa mix.
