Homemade strawberry jam is great. Strawberry jam with chia seeds is even better! Made with fresh strawberries and sweetened with maple syrup, this recipe is a great quick jam that you’ll want to keep in the fridge regularly.
Ingredients
- Strawberries – The recipe uses fresh berries. Frozen strawberries are a good alternative; you’ll just have to cook the mixture a little longer to remove excess liquid.
- Maple syrup – The sweetener for this quick jam. Use pure maple syrup (not pancake syrup). Honey is a good option if you have it.
- Chia seeds – These fiber-packed seeds turn this strawberry jam into something extra special. They also act as the thickener, replacing the pectin that’s normally used in jam.
- Vanilla extract – For the best results with anything that requires it, make sure to keep pure vanilla extract in your kitchen. Avoid any bottle labeled “imitation”.
How to Make Strawberry Chia Jam
- Cook the sliced strawberries with water and a pinch of salt until they soften and begin to break down.
- Stir in the maple syrup, chia seeds, and vanilla extract.
- Continue cooking over low heat until the mixture thickens into a jam-like texture.
- Remove from the heat and let it cool. The jam will thicken as it cools.
- Transfer to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator.
