Substitutions + Alternatives

Can I use All-Purpose Flour?

Yes, All-Purpose Flour can be used. Use the same amount that is listed in the ingredients, but swap with all purpose.

Can I use regular dairy?

Feel free to make this recipe your own. I use dairy-free milk, but feel welcome to choose your preferred dairy option without any recipe adjustments. Unless specified otherwise, you have the flexibility to use the milk of your choice for the recipe.

Note: While almond milk is an option, it is less preferred due to its liquid consistency. Consider opting for a milk alternative with a thicker texture.

How To Make Cinnamon Toast Cereal Cinnamon Rolls:

  1. Prepare the yeast: In a mixing bowl, add the mashed bananas. In a separate bowl, combine half of the sugar, yeast, and warm water. Allow it to sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy and bubbly.
  2. Heat the milk mixture: In a stockpot, add the butter, the remaining sugar, salt, and milk. Heat the mixture until it begins to bubble at the sides (do not let it boil). Then, set it aside to cool slightly.
  3. Combine the mixtures: Add the yeast mixture to the mixing bowl with the mashed bananas and pour in the milk mixture.
  4. Incorporate the flour: Gradually add 1 cup of flour at a time, mixing on low speed. Once all the flour is incorporated, continue mixing for an additional 3 minutes.
  5. Roll out the dough: Remove the dough from the bowl and place it on a lightly floured surface. Gently roll it out to approximately 9×12 inches.
  6. Prepare the filling: In a separate bowl, mix the cinnamon and sugar together for the filling. Spread the crushed Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal on the dough and sprinkle the cinnamon/sugar mixture.
  7. Roll and slice: Carefully roll up the dough, starting from one of the longer sides. Once rolled, cut it into 9 equal slices.
  8. Prepare for rising: Butter a 10×10-inch baking dish. Place the cinnamon rolls in the dish, cover them with plastic wrap and a towel. Allow the rolls to rise until they are 1 ½ times in size, which should take approximately 3 hours.
  9. Bake to perfection: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake the cinnamon rolls for 30 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Make the glaze: While the rolls are baking, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to create the glaze.
  11. Glaze and enjoy: Once the cinnamon rolls are done baking, drizzle the glaze over the top while they are still warm. Then, dive in and savor the sweet and crunchy delight!

Commonly Asked Questions:

Can I use regular flour instead of gluten-free flour?

Yes, you can definitely use regular all-purpose flour if you don’t have dietary restrictions. The texture and taste will be equally delicious.

Can I make these cinnamon rolls in advance?

Yes, you can prepare the rolls up to the point of letting them rise, then cover them tightly and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, allow them to come to room temperature before baking.

Can I use a different cereal for the filling?

While Cinnamon Toast Crunch is the star here, you can experiment with other cereals for a unique twist. However, keep in mind that it may alter the flavor profile slightly.

Can I freeze these cinnamon rolls?

Absolutely! You can freeze the baked cinnamon rolls (without the glaze) in an airtight container for up to three months. When you’re ready to enjoy them, simply reheat them in the oven and drizzle with glaze.

The Secret To Cinnamon Rolls

Introducing heavy cream to your cinnamon rolls is like adding a secret ingredient that takes them to the next level. The cream brings a luxurious tenderness to the rolls’ texture, making each bite soft, moist, and incredibly satisfying. As the rolls bake, the cream works its magic, creating a golden, slightly caramelized exterior that adds a subtle richness to every bite. It’s an insider’s tip to crafting cinnamon rolls that are not just good but exceptional.

How much do we add?

When pouring heavy cream into the pan for cinnamon rolls, you don’t need to entirely submerge the dough. The goal is to provide a generous amount to ensure moisture and flavor enhancement, but not so much that it drowns the dough. Aim to cover about 2/3 of the dough with the cream, leaving some parts exposed.

  1. Why bananas I make cinnamon rolls all during the yr. I have never heard of this what does it do other than replace sugar in yeast mixture.

  2. 5 stars
I seen this recipe a few months ago and decided to give it a go and I must say it was super easy to follow the directions which we all know sometimes isn’t the easiest to do. They turned out amazing so fluffy and delicious. Not overly sweet either like some of those chain places. That was the 2nd time! The first time my water was to hot and I killed the yeast. Make sure the water is the right temp.
