My Favorite Spiritual Wellness Resort in Costa Rica: Kambo Casita

This year was extra special for Joe and me, our 20th wedding anniversary. We went back and forth about how to celebrate. Should we stay closer to home or do something bigger? We have traveled more this year than in the past three combined, and Costa Rica has become a central place for us to do spiritual plant medicine work. It felt only natural to return for this milestone.
A close girlfriend of mine had already raved about Kambo Casita, saying she and her husband had gone twice for Bufo and Kambo. When I saw a “Week of Magic” retreat on their Instagram, I could not stop thinking about it. The only problem was that it was not in our plans or budget. Before leaving on a girls’ trip to Seattle, I meditated and asked for a clear sign. If I was supposed to go, I needed to make the exact amount to cover the trip. By the time my plane landed, I had a job offer for that exact amount. That night, I booked.

What Kambo Casita Is
Kambo Casita is a spiritual wellness resort tucked away in the lush hills near Sámara, Costa Rica—just ten minutes from the beach. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down, reconnect, and remember who you are at your core. Between massage therapy, plant medicine ceremonies, grounding practices, and time in nature, every part of the experience is designed to help you come home to yourself.
The resort hosts intimate, small-group retreats and personalized ceremonies that weave together Kambo, Bufo, Rapé, Sananga, Daime, astrology, sound healing, and grounding work. Each offering is guided with intention and care, creating a safe and transformative environment for deep healing and spiritual growth.
Kambo Casita also offers custom immersions such as Annual Deep Dive and Ground Into Gratitude, both designed for people seeking authentic connection and inner alignment rather than a surface-level vacation. Whether you’re looking to release, reset, or simply rest, this space holds everything you need for true reconnection—mind, body, and spirit.

Arrival in Costa Rica
We flew into Liberia Airport, which was easy to navigate, and met our driver along with another guest heading to the retreat. The drive to Kambo Casita takes about three hours, but it’s a beautiful ride through Costa Rica’s countryside. When we arrived, the property sat slightly higher up, offering stunning views from the start.
The rooms were spacious and comfortable, each with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a mini-fridge, and a private bathroom with a shower. The back porch opened to serene views that felt both grounding and peaceful. Meals were included three times daily, and they were always fresh, colorful, and sourced locally. Costa Rica has the best fruit I have ever tasted, and every meal came with fresh juices, fruits, and whole foods.
There is also a shared space for dining and conversation. From the moment we arrived, Nadine, the owner, and her team welcomed us like family. I especially loved that she has several rescue dogs and birds who live on the property. It added such a light, joyful energy to the space.

The Week’s Flow

Before arriving, Joe and I had a call with Nadine about what our week would look like. We were scheduled for three different medicine ceremonies, daily grounding classes, and morning movement. I had been craving the grounding practices most of all.
For almost four years, since beginning my spiritual journey, I have had so much energy flowing that it sometimes feels like fight-or-flight mode. I tried everything, from workouts to meditation to breathwork, but it either made the energy more intense or only worked briefly.
On our first day, Joe and I did Kambo for the first time. Personally, I felt like it helped my nervous system release something. In my own experience, I noticed a shift with my allergies afterward. For the first time in years, I was not constantly blowing my nose.
Later that day we met Meg, who would be leading the grounding work. She explained the importance of the root and said, “If the root is not grounded, nothing else lines up.” That line stuck with me. She taught us different tools, from breathwork to grounding through natural surfaces. Did you know practicing meditation or yoga on synthetic mats can block grounding? Wood, cork, grass, or directly on the earth work so much better, and feeling the difference was incredible.
We also met with Rebecca, who specializes in astrology and human design. Her reading was astonishingly accurate, even down to dates of past events. I had never heard of human design before, but I am now fascinated. It gave me so much insight into both my challenges and my strengths.

What Made It Stand Out
The intimacy is what makes Kambo Casita different. They intentionally limit groups to individuals or small groups, which means everything can be tailored to your journey. Whether you are exploring childhood wounds, seeking spiritual reconnection, or simply curious about different medicines, they meet you exactly where you are.
Nadine has been holding medicine ceremonies for decades. She doesn’t just facilitate—she creates an atmosphere with music and instruments that carry you through. Her strength and presence make you feel safe and supported. Veronica, another team member, stood out to me as well. She had a way of saying just the right thing when nerves kicked in or offering quiet support when it was needed most.
Throughout the week, Joe and I both felt huge shifts. For him, chronic shoulder and hip tension eased up within a couple of days of practicing Meg’s grounding work. For me, it was finally feeling like all that overwhelming energy had a place to land. Meg called it “issues in the tissues,” and that’s exactly how it felt.
Closing the Week
All three ceremonies with Nadine were intimate and deeply personal, with everyone holding space for each other. It wasn’t about numbers or crowds—it was about intention, presence, and connection.
By the end of the week, Joe and I left with lighter hearts, new practices for daily life, and a deeper connection to each other and ourselves.
Final Thoughts
Kambo Casita is not a resort you simply visit—it’s a place that stays with you. Between the serene setting, the nourishing meals, the intimate group size, the grounding practices, and the powerful team that guides you, it is a true spiritual wellness retreat.
For our 20th anniversary, it could not have been more perfect. It felt less like a trip and more like a return to nature, to ourselves, and to each other.
