What is your favorite comfort food? I can think of anything else that hugs the soul quite like a grilled cheese. This Gluten Free Pork Panko Crusted Grilled Cheese is just the melty yet crispy creation you need to treat yourself too.

The classic grilled cheese gets an update and boost of savory flavor with a quick dip in pork panko. You’ll love this new spin on a childhood favorite and universal sign of comfort.

Texture is Everything

When it comes to the perfect grilled cheese, it’s all about texture. This Gluten Free Pork Panko Crusted Grilled Cheese gives you everything your crave, and more.

When I bite into a grilled cheese I am looking for that molten lava flow of ooey gooey melted cheese combined with the crunch of perfectly griddled bread. This grilled cheese takes it to a whole other level by getting dipped into custard like French toast before being coated in Bacon’s Heir Pork Panko.

True story, there are two things my husband makes, grilled cheese, and cocktails. But when I saw the jar of Pork Panko I immediately knew what I was making first. I love Bacon’s Heir Pork Panko because it’s Gluten Free and carb free. In addition it’s made with only two ingredients, pork skin and rock salt.

You can use Bacon’s Heir Pork Panko exactly like you’d use any other bread crumb. There are a 1 to 1 swap for any recipe calling for bread crumbs. For this recipe I am using it to coat my grilled cheese sandwiches in before cooking them. Imagine the ultimate savory Monte Cristo turned into a grilled cheese.

Bringing the Crunch to Gluten Free Pork Panko Crusted Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

This recipe is easy and customizable to your favorite bread and cheese combination. I am using both Gluten Free Bread and Dairy Free cheese, but feel free to use whatever you like.

To begin with you want to make sure your pan or griddle is heated over medium heat. You want to hot enough to beautifully crust and sear your bread and Pork Panko coating but not so hot that it burns before the cheese is melted.

While your pan is heating build your sandwiches like you would a regular grilled cheese. Whatever cheese you like and if you’re team Dairy Free butter or mayo. Whatever makes you happy.

In one bowl add your pork panko, and in another bowl mix your custard together. In addition to the eggs and Dairy Free milk paprika and dry mustard are added.

Dip your sandwiches into the custard mixture and then dip them directly into the Pork Panko. You want a light even coating.

From there, grill your sandwiches up like you would any grilled cheese. It usually takes about 3 minutes per side for them to get golden on the outside and melted inside. The only question is can you let them cool long enough before diving in?
