Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups dried great northerners soaked overnight in the refrigerator
  • 4 slices thick bacon chopped
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/2 tsp liquid smoke
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 lb ground beef

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.
  • In a Dutch oven over medium heat cook the bacon and onions.
  • Cook until bacon is crispy.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients in the pot, liquids should be about 2" above the beans.
  • Place the cover on the Dutch oven and cook in the oven at 300 degrees for 2 hours, covered.
  • Remove the cover and cook for an additional 30 minutes.
  • The liquid should be thick, and beans should be fully cooked.
  • If not add an additional 2 cups of water and cook for an additional 30 minutes until the Baked beans are ready.
