Instructions
Lightly oil a bowl and set it aside.
Add the yeast, honey, half of the sugar, and warm water to a bowl and mix. Allow it to sit for 5 minutes. It will begin to foam and bubble.
Add the milk, remaining sugar, salt, and butter to a saucepan over medium heat. Allow it to scald, but not boil. There will be bubbles that begin to form around the edges of the pot. Remove from the heat and let partially cool.
Add the applesauce and egg to a mixing bowl with the mixer fit with a paddle. Mix to combine.
Add the yeast mixture and mix to combine.
With the mixer running slowly add the milk mixture. Mix until combined.
While the mixer continues to run add 1/2 cup of the flour. Add the apple pie seasoning.
Once the flour has been incorporated add the dough to the oiled bowl. The dough will be sticky. Cover with plastic wrap and a towel and place it in a warm place. Allow it to rise for an hour or until it's doubled in size.
Lightly flour your work surface and dough.
Carefully roll the dough out until it's approximately a 9x12 rectangle. Be careful not to press all of the air out of it.
Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, and apples to a bowl and mix to combine. Spread the mixture onto the dough.
Tightly roll the dough into a log. Slice the log into 9 rolls.
Place the rolls into a buttered 9x13 baking dish. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for an hour or until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Uncover the rolls. If desired drizzle the heavy cream over the top of the rolls. This will give them a gooey texture.
Allow the rolls to bake for 30 minutes. Let cool.
Add the cream cheese, vanilla, and powdered sugar to a bowl and mix until smooth and creamy. Spread over the top of the cooled rolls.
