Breaking Bread

There’s something about French toast that makes breakfast, or breakfast for dinner, special. The combination of slightly crispy exterior and soft custardy interior creates a perfect bite.

This Gluten Free Decadent S’mores French Toast takes that classic and updates it into something both memorable and spectacular. As impressive as it looks however, it couldn’t be easier. It’s all about building layers of flavor.

To turn your regular French toast into something s’more-worthy with just a few simple ingredients. Graham crackers, Dairy Free chocolate-hazelnut spread, and marshmallow fluff.

For the Gluten Free Graham Crackers I am using Pamela’s Products. These graham crackers are the perfect texture for not just snacking, but creating your graham cracker crusts, desserts, and of course s’mores!

Gluten Free Decadent S’mores French Toast, S’more Please!

In just a few easy steps you’ll be on your way to wowing your friends and family. The only question is are you going to double or triple the recipe?

The basis of all French toast recipes starts with a custard. This is what the bread will be dipped in. Keeping this Dairy Free I am using oat milk along with an egg, cinnamon, vanilla, and just a little sugar. You can use your favorite Dairy Free alternative in this recipe.

When you dip your bread into the custard, you want to leave it just long enough to absorb, but not so long that it gets soggy. From the custard you’re going to coat the bread in the crushed graham crackers.

The next key is the heat of your skillet or griddle. You want it at a medium heat so the outside can get that gorgeous bronzed brown while the inside cooks. Especially with the addition of the graham crackers on the outside, you don’t want a high heat that will burn.

The last step of Gluten Free Decadent S’mores French Toast is s’morifying it. You’re going to spread your Dairy Free chocolate-hazelnut spread and marshmallow fluff on each piece of French toast. How high you decide to stack it is completely up to you!

To really take these to a new level, you can also add marshmallows at the top and using a kitchen torch give those fluffy marshmallows a fiery finish. Who says you can’t have s’mores for breakfast?
